1、盡量按照總分的結構進行敘述，單刀直入，這也是西方人習慣的表達方式。由一句主題句引出觀點與中心，讓考官能夠清晰地得知敘述的主題，從而打下良好的基礎。如果在考題中出現(xiàn)了問題，則應該開門見山地回答問題，切入主題，闡明自己的觀點，從而為接下來的詳細敘述理清層次以及節(jié)約時間，如果有多余的時間，則可以再增添一句總結的話語，使敘述詳盡完整。
2、中國人說話習慣靠上下文去分析句與句的關系，但是西方人不同，他們習慣用邏輯連接詞來表達句子關系，如果按照中國人的思維去說英語，在外國人看來就是一堆雜亂無章的句子羅列，這樣的分數(shù)常常會十分的不好看。論點的敘述，則應該盡量在草稿上簡單羅列，講述時由淺至深，增強邏輯性與條理性。所以，在練習口語的過程中，好請一位外教跟蹤輔導，為學生糾正口音以及語言習慣等問題。

作記錄并不等于毫無遺漏地將聽到看到的每一個詞都記錄下來，那既是不必要的，也是不現(xiàn)實的、不可能的，特別是在新托福的口語考試中。作記錄應著重那些能反映關鍵信息的關鍵詞，能反映中心意義的核心句。先將它們符號化，然后再將這些符號還原成先前聽到或讀到的內容。請看下面的例子：

速記實際上是我們突破記憶障礙的一種手段，是對記憶的一種補充，是對自己的一種提醒，因此，在作記錄時應注意：

1 、準確性原則(Accuracy)
準確性強調要準確挖掘與獲取聽、讀材料的中心思想與細節(jié)內容，不能任憑主觀臆想;同時還要注意用準確的語言輸出。
2、完整性原則(Integrity)
完整性指的是：一要全面采集與應用聽、讀材料的信息，特別是不能遺漏任何重要的細節(jié);二是所提供的答案語言要完整。
3、客觀性原則(Objectivity)
客觀性是指要客觀陳述材料內容，不能妄加主觀評論(除非有這樣的要求)。
4、簡潔性原則(Conclusion)
簡潔性強調的是要采用簡練的口語進行復述，不應過分堆砌辭藻(當然了，幾十秒鐘的時間也不允許這樣做)。語言要樸素，同時還要注意避免說出與主題無關的話語，更不能車轱轆話來回說。
